President Report April 2023

AFHM Members and Supporters:

As we move into the 2nd Quarter of 2023 we can point to several program and revenue raising initiatives by our all-volunteer team that include:

  • The launch of the monthly “Saturday Speakers Series” that has featured the Montford Point Marines, Gold Star Mothers, and our own Billy Terrell story, with more to come. These presentations include tours of the Lawrence House that are well received.
  • The inaugural golf tournament fundraiser scheduled for June 28th at the Cream Ridge Country Club. Check your email for details.
  • The addition of a Marine Corps uniform display at our museum that focuses on the parallel stories of two Vietnam War “Brothers in Arms”, including our own Major Ronald Hathaway! Additionally, the room adjacent to the board meeting room was painted and is being prepped for use as a video recording studio and reference library. Finally, be sure to check out our new attraction that reinforces the notion that, “The Spirit of Military History Lives Here Too!” (see attached images below)
  • A Lawrence House graphic panel addition and reader rail updates to our Mobile Museum,(as well as extensive, largely donated contractor services, PM work) in preparation for the upcoming event schedule that kicks off with the Bordentown Street Fair on May 20th
  • Preparations for marketing the Revolutionary War children’s book at mobile events, as well as at table events scheduled at the Smithville Mansion (May 21st) and the Burlington County Country Club (June 27th)
  • Planning for our first anniversary celebration of the opening of the Lawrence House that is scheduled for June 10th, with details to follow. This will be a joint gathering with the Burlington County Historical Society who will be celebrating its own 100th Anniversary!

In all, much is going on and your volunteer support and funding contributions are welcomed and much appreciated! Please reach out to any of our leadership team members to let us know how you may be able to help, along with your availability to do so.

Please share this message with family and friends toward gaining their appreciation and support as well, with an eye to hopefully seeing some memberships result!

Respectfully,

Roy Plummer, President-AFHM
