Presidents Report- September 2023
Dear AFHM Members and Supporters:
The Fall months are upon us and we continue with our mission projects and events in promoting our brand to the public in very positive ways, including for the month:
– The Wood Street Fair in Burlington city that drew 1000+ and enabled us to advertise the Lawrence House as well as our children’s book
– Burlington Mercer Chamber pizza luncheon business member meeting at Palermo’s in Bordentown
– The upcoming Springfield Township Community Day on September 24th that will feature our multimedia mobile unit and where i will have the honor to emcee the event
– Legacy Club business networking socials at the Wells Fargo Center and Parx Casino
– Submission of a Burlington County Grant for the “Right to Fight” desegregation in the military documentary ($10,000). A decision is expected in November with and award amount given in the February 2024 timeframe
– Revamping of the Lawrence House that has begun in transitioning to a war era timeline flow and enhanced use of the available exhibit space. This project initiative is being led by Rich Hill along with a volunteer support team. Operating hour tours will be halted until the transition has been completed, targeted to be within the next month or two. A museum design consultant is also being pursued to provide a professional perspective as well
– Selection of a new website and social media provider, Burlington Press, as a replacement contractor for CaddisArt who has ceased operations. Scott Sutton, President and owner, will be providing an introduction and overview of Burlington Press at this month’s meeting
In addition to the above we are continuing our planning for the annual dinner on November 4th and look to everyone’s support in attending and/or being an ad book sponsor for this key fundraiser event. Dinner and sponsorship packages are available on our website and through Marvel Carrol who is the planning chair for the event. Sam Davis, a highly regarded George Washington portrayer and AFHM member, will provide an entertaining program as well. Be there!
Respectively submitted,
Roy Plummer, President AFHM
