Attention All Military History Appreciators and Supporters of our Military Heritage!
The Armed Forces Heritage Museum (AFHM) will be presenting an educational documentary chronicling The NJ National Guard’s “Youth Challenge Academy” program at the Burlington County Lyceum, located at 307 High Street, Mt. Holly, NJ, on Saturday, June 22nd, at 11am. Light refreshments will be served.
The NJ National Guard has a long history of providing this program that offers a High School Equivalency (GED) exam preparation school to disadvantaged/troubled youth, ages 16-18. This program is entirely voluntary and includes a military-regimented leadership and team building training experience that spans a six-month period of time on the Camp Dix complex of the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Wrightstown, NJ.
In The News
Sen. Vin Gopal this week applauded the appointment of Interlaken resident Dr. Lewis Wetstein to the Board of Trustees of the Military Dependents Scholarship Fund.
The appointment was made by Senate President Sweeney.
“Dr. Wetstein’s outstanding military record and history of service make him an exemplary selection for this committee,” said Gopal, who chairs the Senate Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “His service during Operation Desert Storm, as well as his role as Commander of the 514th AMDS and service with the State Air Surgeon during Operation Iraqi Freedom, are testaments to his leadership and dedication to both our country and his fellow troops. I have no doubt that his guidance and support will strengthen our State’s ability to provide much-needed financial assistance to the families of those who have sacrificed so much in defense of our freedom.”
Wetstein currently serves as chief of the Thoracic Surgery at Community Medical Center in Toms River and Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township.
“I am honored for the opportunity to serve the families of the men and women who have served our country, and grateful to Senate President Sweeney for his faith in my abilities,” Wetstein said. “I look forward to working alongside my colleagues on the Board to help the children and families of our service members access one of the best tools for expanding their horizons and career opportunities: a college education.”
The Board of Trustees is composed of nine public members appointed by the Senate President, General Assembly Speaker, and Governor.
