Presidents Report October 2024

AFHM Members and Supporters:

Well, the Phillies are out as the Yankees continue on in post season baseball. Meanwhile the Eagles and Giants struggle to improve and have a chance in the Superbowl hunt. On a more promising note, my alma mater Penn State is undefeated and ranked #3 in the nation!

And speaking of winning teams AFHM keeps its success record going with the following highlights for October:

  • Burlington County Times “Best Of” Community Choice Award finalist in the Museum category
  • “Historic Structure Repurposing” Honorable Mention Award from the PreservationNJ nonprofit history organization for the Lawrence House Museum project
  • Inaugural military history class program as a volunteer instructor at the Rowan College of Burlington County for their Fall Semester. Future classes are in process as well as a continuing military history education initiative with the college
  • JBMDL building naming dedication ceremony for our own Gen. Bob Dutko (USAF Retired) to honor his longstanding career and leadership that resulted in the 1980’s construction of the 108th Wing Mission Generation Complex still in operation at the Base today
  • Participation in Burlington city table events at the Wood Street Fair and K-9 Car Show
  • Mobile displays at a Burlington Chevrolet veteran tribute car show, as well as at the 400th anniversary celebration of the initial settlement of Burlington Island by the Dutch hosted by the “Friends of Burlington Island” non-profit organization
  • Information table displays at the Burlington County Center for Volunteers and Veterans Expo events
  • Attendance at a workshop hosted by the “Crossroads of the American Revolution” organization as part of their partnership with the NJ state’s America 250 celebration campaign

Now it’s on to our annual dinner fundraising event on November 2nd at O’Connor’s restaurant in Eastampton where we will be honoring four key women members as well as a community leader. The evening will also feature Joanie Schneider and her quartet who will be performing songs from the WWII and post-war eras and patriotic tunes! Get your tickets now and join us for what promises to be another “winner” for sure.

Respectfully submitted.,

Roy Plummer, President AFHM
