Presidents Report August 2024
AFHM President’s Message – August 2024
To All AFHM Members and Supporters:
The dog days of summer are with us as we move into August while continuing undeterred with our mission programs that promote the organization as follows:
- Participation in the Florence Township Patriotic Day parade and public celebrations at their municipal complex that included the mobile exhibit that was very well received
- Mobile event at the JBMDL 108th Wing Family Day(8/4), as well as displays in support of the Florence Amazon distribution center’s Back-to-School and Diversity Day events (8/13 & 14)
- Kickoff of our Super 50/50 raffle ticket fundraiser with a Dec 13th drawing date at O’Connor’s. Early sales are most encouraging
- Continued work on the blacks in the military “Right to Fight” documentary series being funded through a Burlington County re-grant award. Joe Gangemi of Sweet Recording Studios in Mt Laurel has been retained for audio/visual editing and filming needs
- Another Saturday Speaker Series program at the BCHS complex on July 27th that featured Richard Moody, a retired British Royal Navy carrier pilot with a fascinating military history story to tell. He also signed copies of his book for interested attendees
- An “On the Town Food Tour” group visited the Lawrence House in conjunction with their walk through Burlington city sampling food at several restaurants. A December return tour is scheduled
- Formalized an agreement with the Rowan College of Burlington County to conduct a classroom session (10/9) on AFHM and its military history programs for registered LIFE participants in the Fall Semester. Participants will also be invited to tour the Lawrence House as an added program benefit
- Conducted an Executive Committee strategic planning meeting at the Lawrence House that focused on near-term goals and budgeting needs. Also conducted a “spring cleaning” of the board room that targeted the removal of unused items not to be retained
In closing thanks to all those volunteers who invest their time and talents in support of our military history mission programs and projects. Well done indeed as we look to the Fall and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Keep those 50/50 ticket sales coming!
Respectfully submitted,
Roy Plummer, President AFHM
