On This Date September 29,1789-the Continental Army becomes the official army of the US

September 29, 1789 – US War Department established a regular army. George Washington led
the Continental Army as a General against the British in the American Revolution, and won,
however, this army was not the official army of the United States. On this date, Congress
changed that.
