September 20, 1775 – first company of Minutemen in Salem County (NJ) is formed from
members of the Old Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church.
September 20, 1777 – the New Jersey Legislature, meeting at the Indian King Tavern in
Haddonfield, votes unanimously to substitute the word “State” for “Colony” in all public writs and
commissions.
