On This Date October 5, 1776-Troops Abandon Bergen Neck Fort

October 5, 1776 – American troops abandon the Bergen Neck Fort. Built by the Americans in
1776, it is later taken over by Loyalists and renamed Fort Delancey. The fort was demolished in
September of 1782
