On This Date October 27,1775 and 1787- King George III declares “Rebellion”; and Federalist letters published
October 27. 1775 – King George III speaks before both houses of the British Parliament to
discuss growing concern about the rebellion in America, which he viewed as a traitorous action
against himself and Great Britain. He began his speech by reading a “Proclamation of
Rebellion” and urged Parliament to move quickly to end the revolt and bring order to the
colonies.
October 27, 1787 – Federalist letters start appearing in New York newspapers. Over 80 articles
end up being written in support of the new US Constitution; most of them are written by
Alexander Hamilton.
