On This Date October 22,1777-Hessians leave Haddonfield, NJ
October 22, 1777 – after leaving Haddonfield, the Hessian troops find a dismantled bridge over
Big Timber Creek and are forced to take a longer route to get to Fort Mercer. Once there, they
are defeated at the Battle of Red Bank and Colonel Von Donop is fatally wounded. They retreat back to
Haddonfield. The next day, they retraced their steps to Philadelphia
