March 15, 1781 – British and American forces clash during the Battle of Guilford Court House,
North Carolina. The British suffered heavy losses, surrendering to George Washington in
October.

March 15, 1919 – birth of the American Legion in Paris, France. The organization was formed by
a thousand officers and men of the American Expeditionary Forces (A. E. F.), and it was
chartered on September 16, 1919, by the United States Congress
. The Legion played the
leading role in the drafting and passing of the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944,
commonly known as the “G.I. Bill.”

March 15, 1951 – United Nations forces recapture Seoul, the fourth and final time the city
changes hands in the Korean War.
