On This Date June 13,1942- German saboteurs land on Long Island
June 13, 1942 – Germany lands four saboteurs (four others joined later) on Long Island. In
addition to the destruction of Penn Station in Newark, New Jersey, the four were to sabotage
hydroelectric plants in Niagara Falls, locks on the Ohio River, and the Horseshoe Curve in
Altoona. The plot was uncovered and six of the eight were executed in August, 1942.
