Al is a retired president of two engineering companies specializing in operations planning, command and control, conceptual and preliminary engineering, research, testing and forensic engineering. He has degrees in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture and Historic Preservation with 35 years experience as a corporate manager, consultant and railroad official. He currently works as an independent railway transportation consultant, historian and author. A recent project includes station design and preservation of historic railroad fabric for the Camden-Trenton River Line project.
A distinguished military graduate of Norwich University, Al served seven years on active duty, with over three years overseas in command and staff positions with U.S. Army combat units as a Regular Army Armor officer. He was a rated Aerial Observer and qualified nuclear weapons employment officer. He had additional duty with the U.S. Army Active Reserve Military Railway Service.
During the past ten years Al has also served on several Boards of Directors. including Whitesbog Preservation Trust, YMCA Camp Ockanickon, and The Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical History – where he has served as President for 9 years. He was a gubernatorial appointment to the NJ Historic Sites Council for 10 years, eight of which were as chair. He recently authored two books on railroad equipment.
Al is Chair of the AFHHM Museum Development Committee.
